Alabama, NC DOIs Name Two to Key Positions *Centurion Insurance AFS*

Two state insurance departments have named new people to high-level positions.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey this week announced that Amy Funderburk, a longtime attorney for a number of state government agencies and a credit union, will take over as general counsel for the department.

Funderburk holds a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree from East Carolina University. Her resume includes work as the deputy counsel for the state Administrative Office of Courts and an assistant state attorney general. Most recently, she was senior counsel for the North Carolina State Employees’ Credit Union.

Funderburk succeeds John Hoomani, who was named DOI’s chief operating officer in January.

In Alabama, the state DOI named Patsy Hughes, who recently retired from Alfa Insurance, as consumer education and outreach coordinator. Hughes has 32 years in the insurance business, including years as instructional designer and training consultant at Alfa and manager of Alfa’s in-house insurance agency, the department said in a statement.

Hughes also has been a member of DOI’s Industry Advisory Committee for 15 years. She graduated from the University of Alabama.
